According to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of October 11, 2022, which stipulates that the organization of electricity trade transactions with the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, as well as the supply of electricity for trade using the electricity system of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus has been suspended from October 11, 2022, the Latvian transmission system operator JSC "Augstsprieguma tīkls" no longer provides the opportunity for businessmen to trade electricity produced in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in Latvia, including no longer provides the opportunity to make commercial deliveries of electricity using the electricity system of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

Taking into account the war started by Russia in Ukraine, electricity trade between Russia and the Baltics has not been taking place since May 22, 2022, but electricity trade with Belarus has not been taking place for a longer time. On the other hand, as of June 1, the transmission system operators of the Baltic States (Baltic TSOs) - Latvian JSC "Augstsprieguma tīkls", Lithuanian "Litgrid" AB and Estonian "Elering" decided not to buy balancing electricity from Russia anymore, ensuring the balance of consumption and generation in the Baltics mainly with Balancing capacities available on the Baltic, Nordic and Polish markets.
