Fulfilling the requirements of the European Union's 3-rd Energy Package legislation, on January 12, 2011 Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia accepted the decision on establishment of independent Transmission System Operator and the Parliament of Republic of Latvia on July 8, 2011 accepted respective changes in the Energy Market Law (in force from August 11, 2011).
Consequently Cabinet of Ministers adopted several orders on the purchase of shares of AS Augstsprieguma tīkls” from AS „Latvenergo” and on December 30, 2011 the Share Purchase Agreement between AS „Latvenergo” and the Republic of Latvia in the name of the Ministry of Finance was concluded.
