AST increases the transfer capacity for the electricity trade from Estonia to Latvia/Lithuania

News

„Augstsprieguma tīkls”AS agreed with Lithuanian transmission system operator Litgrid AB on ensuring of additional amounts of reserves for increasing electricity trading possibilities (network transfer capacity) in direction from Estonia to Latvia / Lithuania.
Increase of network transfer capacity will contribute to larger volume of market transactions between Baltic countries as well as with Russia and Belarus.
As a result of this initiative, „Augstsprieguma tīkls” AS is undertaking additional risks, since existence of necessary additional reserves depends on power offers of generating companies in day-ahead market. Above offers as one knows are coming after AST already agrees on cross-border values. To minimize these risks, Augstsprieguma tīkls AS has initiated negotiations with the Estonian transmission system operator Elering AS on ensuring additional down-regulation reserves in Estonia, as a result of which using of emergency reserves in the deficit region (Latvia and Lithuania) becomes more efficient. It should be taken into account that efficiency of these negotiations depends on readiness of Elering AS to accept the network transfer capacity calculation methodology, which ensures determination of a network transfer capacity depending on the available amount of power reserves. Above mentioned approach is applied by “Augstsprieguma tīkls” AS and Litgrid AB.
